General questions

BT-021 tyres on bike

Q: Will I need to increase my tyre pressures when carrying a pillion or luggage?
A: No, when Bridgestone conduct their testing all variables like this are taken into consideration and tested for. The pressures indicated in the 2007 Bridgestone fitment guide can be used for both solo and dual riding applications.

Q: The pressures in my handbook are different to those listed in the Bridgestone fitment guide. Why is this?
A: The pressures in your handbook only refer to the tyre on which the bike left the factory. More commonly known as the OE (Original Equipment) fitment. The make and type of OE tyre should be listed in the handbook. In addition there may be further approvals listed, too. The pressures should again be listed with these additions. If the tyre you have fitted does not appear in the handbook then you will need to refer to the tyre manufacturers recommendations.

Q: Can I run a Bridgestone with any other brand of tyre?
A: Tyre companies do not have the resources, or indeed the time to test their tyres mixed with a competitor's tyre. Therefore there is no data to help support any such combinations. Tyres companies also have different methods in the way their tyres are produced so they may be totally different to one another.

Q: Can I repair a motorcycle tyre?
A: Some Bridgestone tyres can be repaired to specific guidelines. A puncture should be repaired as soon as possible to enable the most optimum repair. When an emergency repair has been carried out it is important to get the tyre dismounted and inspected by an expert, as the tyre may not be fit for service.

Q: When is the best time to check my tyre pressures?
A: Tyre pressure must be checked when the tyres are cold. Pressures should be checked on a weekly basis.

Q: Should I replace the valve when a new tyre is fitted?
A: Yes. It is important to change rubber valves every time as these perish over time when exposed to the elements. When a metal valve is fitted it is important to change all the rubber internal components for the same reason.
