BT-021 Frequently asked questions

Q: Am I likely to see an improvement in the mileage?
A: The tests have shown an increase as a like for like test over the BT-020. Mainly due to the use of SACT technology in the rear tyre. SACT is dual compound and is used in many Bridgestone tyres, past and present.
Q: Will the wet grip be better than the BT-020?
A: The wet grip of the BT-020 was outstanding and was the cutting edge for road based motorcycle tyres, winning a number of awards. The BT-021 will offer more feel and grip when being used in the same situation as the BT-020.
Q: Will the BT-021 be as good as the BT-020 for full on touring?
A: The BT-021 consists of some newly developed technology, OBF. This is Outside Bead Filler and is there to assist with stability, not just high speed cruising, but cornering too, by assisting with the weight spread of the pillion and luggage. The zero degree belting technology (MSB) has also been added to the front tyre to assist with high speed stability, shimmy and stability under braking.
Q: The BT-021 is a touring tyre offering improved dry grip and improved mileage. How is this achieved?
A: Because the rear tyre is dual compound it allows us to use softer compounds on the two outside thirds and a harder, more durable compound in the centre third. The centre third is the part of tyre that wears more quickly so having the harder compound in the middle will not only achieve improved durability, it will create a more uniformed wear pattern.
Q: I have a pair of BT-020's fitted, but the rear needs replacing. Can I fit the new BT-021 with the BT-020 front?
A: At present, the BT-020 and BT-021 have not been tested as a pair. So to say they will work together would be foolish as there is no data to suggest they will.
Q: It is ok to mix any of the Bridgestone tyres?
A: 99% of the time all tyres are designed to run as pairs. There are a few exceptions to this rule however and these are listed in the 2007 Bridgestone Fitment Guide.
